2022 1oz Silver Panda 40th Anniversary Proof Coin

In 2022 to mark the 40th anniversary of the series, the China Mint released a series of special 40th Anniversary Proofs to pay homage to the original 1982 Panda coin design. The design, a modern adaptation of the 1982 coin, was inspired by the original image created by renowned Chinese artist Chen Jian. But where the 1982 designs resembled a simple line drawing, the new, 40th anniversary design is flush with exquisite detail. Gone are the flat designs, replaced by richly textured detail so intricate that you can see every strand of fur in the cuddly panda bear’s fur. The new design is the work of Ms. Tong Fang, a China Mint designer who has created many one-year-only designs for China’s Panda Series. The by-now familiar Panda is shown seated on its ample rump gnawing on a bamboo branch. The obverse shows the Temple of Heaven with the 2022 year date at the bottom.
