Australia's vast and rugged outback is a land of awe-inspiring natural beauty, steeped in rich history and cultural significance. The continent spans a staggering 7.68 million square kilometres, an area comprising deep canyons, arid desert, lush rainforests, and stunning coastlines. Australia is home to between 600,000 and 700,000 species of wildlife, many of which are found only in Australia, making the Australian outback one of the world's most precious natural treasures.                                    

Celebrating Australia’s wondrous wildlife species, the coin depicts a dynamic scene from outback Australia. Clockwise from the right, a dingo stands on a rocky perch. Two emus are positioned in the riverbed, one pausing to drink at the water’s edge. A snake lies coiled on a nearby rock, while a crocodile emerges from the water. Three kangaroos are depicted bounding across the terrain and a wedge-tailed eagle soars in flight above. The background features a rugged mountainous landscape extending across the horizon. The design includes The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark and 2026 year-date.

The obverse bears the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, and the coin’s weight, fineness and monetary denomination. The outer rim is adorned with illustrations of native Australian flora.
