Hampton Court Palace is a magnificent testament to the ambitions of one of England’s most notorious monarchs. Built in the early sixteenth century, Henry VIII claimed the estate as his residence.        

Following his marriage to Jane Seymour in 1536, Henry VIII commissioned a commanding entrance to the palace, presenting several majestic beasts to honour his new Queen Consort. Amongst these was the impressive Royal Dragon, which represents the Tudor monarch’s Welsh ancestry and serves as a symbol of courage and strength.

Crafted in collaboration with renowned sculptor and illustrator David Lawrence, The Royal Dragon 2026 UK Coin is the tenth and final release in The Royal Mint’s Royal Tudor Beasts Collection.
