It is a tribute to the original 5 Pesos silver coin issued by Mexico in 1947–1948, which featured a powerful depiction of the emperor as a symbol of indigenous strength and resistance. The original coin was struck shortly after World War II, during a period of renewed national identity and pride in Mexico’s pre-Hispanic roots. This modern tribute preserves the design and historical significance of that era, reflecting the enduring respect for Cuauhtémoc’s courage and leadership during the final chapter of the Aztec civilization. The obverse features Aztec Emperor Cuauhtémoc and the reverse features the national emblem of Mexico, accompanied by the Niue effigy.
