Hotly pursued in any grade, and missing from many collections, the Royal Australian Mint’s 2012 Red Poppy $2 is notable as Australia’s first circulating colour coin, and first circulating commemorative $2 type.

Issued to honour all who have served Australia during times of conflict, this groundbreaking issue is also Australia’s lowest mintage circulating decimal issue. The mintage was a mere 500,000! Just to give that figure some context, the annual average mintage of the $2 since introduced in 1988 is well over 28 million!
