Each piece contains a repeating botanical symbol of Canada and is minted from pure Ag.9999 silver, weighing 5 troy ounces and having a diameter of 65.25 mm, in the proof and ultra high relief standards. In addition, each silver leaf is guaranteed by the Government of Canada and is legal tender in the issuing country. Walter Otto is responsible for the design of the silver coin's image, which has remained unchanged for years.

The obverse of the silver bullion coin bears the image of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the nominal value and year of minting the coin.

The reverse shows a maple leaf, which is the national symbol of Canada, as well as the fineness in which the coin was minted and the country of issue.
