The Last Post comes to the $2 coin

A bugle call. Then a minute of silence.

The Last Post was once the signal that a soldier’s day had ended. Today it is the sound of Australian remembrance, played after the Ode and before the silence in which we honour those who have served. On Tuesday 10 November, the eve of Remembrance Day, the Royal Australian Mint brings it to the $2 coin in three formats, including a Premium Roll available only through authorised dealers.

The design

Designer Lydia Ashe places a lone bugler before a war memorial at sundown. Bars of music radiate outward from the figure like sound waves, following the arc of the setting sun as it meets the horizon. The relief beneath the colour is shaped into musical staves, and worked into them are musical rests, a quiet reference to the silence that follows the call and to the final rest of the fallen. Memorial steps cut across the composition, and the inscriptions THE LAST POST and REMEMBRANCE follow the curve of the rim.

At the centre, a colour print in dusky orange and deep purple carries the light of twilight. The designer’s initials, LA, sit near the rim, and the Uncirculated and Silver Proof editions carry the Mint’s ‘C’ mintmark for Canberra.

This release follows the Mint’s Dawn Service program from April 2026. Together, the two honour the ceremonies that bookend Australia’s days of remembrance.
