The Coin Company is proud to present the Queen Elizabeth II The Second Effigy 2026 UK £5 Silver Proof Coin by The Royal Mint.

During a record-breaking reign that spanned more than seven decades, Elizabeth II established herself as one of the most memorable monarchs in British history. Five definitive portraits of the queen appeared on the coins of the United Kingdom throughout that period.

Our Portraits of a Queen Collection takes a closer look at each of these effigies and the stories behind their creation. For the reverse of each coin in the collection, these portraits have been remastered by Gordon Summers, The Royal Mint’s Chief Engraver.

Available in several editions, the second coin in the collection features Arnold Machin’s coinage portrait of Elizabeth II, which was created to adorn the obverse of the new decimalised coinage. Machin chose to portray Elizabeth II wearing a tiara of festoons, scrolls and collet-spikes, which was gifted to her as a wedding present by her grandmother Queen Mary.
