Lunar Year of the Dragon 2024 $5 Doomed Fine Silver Proof Coin

Lunar New Year is celebrated throughout the world, with coins considered traditional gifts. Featuring the noble and confident Dragon on the reverse and the Lunar calendar wheel on the obverse, this coin is an auspicious gift or collectible. The Dragon is the fifth of the twelve signs in the Chinese Zodiac. According to legend twelve animals participated in a race across a river to allow the Jade Emperor to establish the order of the signs of the Chinese horoscope. Everyone thought that the Dragon would come first as it could fly, but it stopped to help some villages along the way. It also felt sorry for the Rabbit and decided to help it ashore first, allowing the Rabbit to take fourth place.

The reverse of this 2024 $5 Fine Silver Proof Domed Coin features the mythical Dragon surrounded by auspicious clouds. The obverse bears the Lunar calendar wheel, rotated so that the Dragon is show at the top, along with the 2024 Memorial Obverse features the effigy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II sculpted by Jody Clark, and her reign dates.

Lunar Year of the Dragon 2024 $5 Doomed Fine Silver Proof Coin has a limited mintage of 7,500.

2023 $5 Rough-Toothed Dolphin 1oz Silver High Relief Proof Coin

Dolphins are found in oceans throughout the world but more often located in deeper waters far out to sea are Rough-Toothed Dolphins. These elegant creatures are celebrated on the Royal Australian Mint’s new Investment and High Relief Silver Proof coins, the fifth release in a series featuring different dolphin species.

Most often encountered far beyond land, Rough-Toothed Dolphins are less well-known than the familiar Bottlenose Dolphin. Named for the irregular ridges on their teeth which are unique to their species, these dolphins are superficially similar in appearance to other dolphins, though the differences, such as their conical head and slender nose, are apparent on closer examination. Like other dolphins, they live on a diet of squid and small fish.

These creatures live in groups of up to 20 and exhibit similar behaviours as other dolphins, including occasional bow-riding of boats. Population numbers aren’t known but Rough-Toothed Dolphins are not thought to be threatened. However, they can fall victim to nets and hunting by fishermen, as well as to predation by sharks and killer whales

Coin’s obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark.

Each coin includes a display box and numbered certificate of authenticity.

2023 $5 Rough-Toothed Dolphin 1oz Silver High Relief Proof Coin  has a limited mintage of 1,000.
