The crest of the Arms, including a seven-pointed star, appears above the shield, which is supported by a kangaroo and an emu, which are native Australian animals. The Coat of Arms represents the federation of the states and the unique wildlife of Australia.

This coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and has an unlimited mintage.
